Android Outlook Set Up

  1. Open the Play Store app.
  1. Type Microsoft Outlook into the search bar, then tap Microsoft Outlook.
  1. Tap Install.
  1. When the download is complete, tap Open.
  1. Tap Get Started.
  1. Tap Skip.
  1. Enter your root email address in the format username@gatech.edu, then tap Continue.
  1. You may be redirected to a Georgia Tech log in screen. Log in with your GT username and password. Your Android device may attempt to copy your email address from the email setup screen to the Georgia Tech login screen. If this occurs, please remove the @gatech.edu suffix from your username so that your GT username is the only value in the GT Account field. If you are using Duo Multifactor Authentication, you will be prompted to verify your login.
  1.  Tap Skip.
  1. Tap the right arrow to go through the introductory slideshow.

Add an Account

  1. Open the Outlook App
  1. Tap the menu icon.
  1. Tap the envelope icon with a plus.
  1. Tap Skip.
  1. Enter your Enter your root email address in the format username@gatech.edu, then tap Continue.
  1.  If prompted, log in with your root email address and GT password.
  1. To access your email, tap the menu icon.
  1. Choose the desired email account from the menu.

Apple Outlook Set Up

  1. Open the App Store.
  1. Search for Outlook and tap Get.
  1. Tap Install.
  1. Enter your Apple ID password and tap OK.
  1. When the app is finished downloading, tap Open.
  1. On the Start screen, tap Add an Account.
  1. On the log in screen, enter your root email address in the format username@gatech.edu and tap Add account.
  1. You may be redirected to a Georgia Tech log in screen. Log in with your GT username and password.   1. Outlook will take a few moments to configure. Your email should appear shortly. If a pop up appears that says the OWA would like to send you push notifications pop up, tap OK.

How do I setup the macOS Mail app?

  1. Click on the Mail icon to run the Mail app.
  1. Select Exchange as the Mail account provider and click Continue.
  1. Enter your Name.  For your Email Address, enter the address as GTAccount@gatech.edu.  Example: gburdell3 would type in gburdell3@gatech.edu.  Once you’ve typed in your Name and Email Address, enter your and GT Account password in the Password field and click Sign In.
  1. Select the apps you would like to use with this account and click Done.

How do we protect against email spam?

The following actions are taken on all incoming email before the email connection is closed with the sending server – this allows the sender to know immediately if their email was not delivered

  1. Attachments in the email are scanned for viruses. Any message triggering the antivirus software is rejected and the email is returned to the sender stating such. The virus definitions are updated every 30 minutes.
  1. The email is processed by SpamAssassin – an open source spam detection package which utilizes a highly competent scoring system. Any email generating a level of 5 or higher is rejected and the email is returned to the sender stating such.
  1. Emails containing password protected compressed files are rejected and the email is returned to the sender stating such. (This is done because such files cannot be scanned by the virus scanning software.)
  1. The message is delivered to the user’s mailbox.

This system has proven to be highly effective in

  • reliably stopping a majority of spam emails from being delivered to the user with an extremely low false positive rate
    and
  • keeping email borne viruses and unscrupulous attachments from reaching the user.

How do I add / remove a vacation message for my email?

You can create an email message that can be sent to people automatically when you are on vacation or away from your computer. This message is called an auto-reply or vacation message.

To create an automatic response to all email received when using CEE’s Mail Server:

  1. Login to http:ceeinfo.cee.gatech.edu
  1. Click on Mail in the left pane
  1. Click on Vacation in the top pane
  1. Follow the instructions on the screen

To stop the automatic response to received email follow the same steps above, choosing instead to Unset a vacation message
